2.1 DBH thresholds & age requirements

DBH Thresholds & Age Requirements for Agarwood Resin InductionTree Readiness Standards under the BarIno™ System

Successful agarwood resin induction depends less on the inoculant and more on tree physiological readiness.
Under the BarIno™ Integrated Inoculation SystemDBH (Diameter at Breast Height) and tree age are treated as non-negotiable entry criteria.

1. Why DBH Matters More Than Age Alone

DBH reflects:

  • Xylem volume available for resin deposition
  • Cambial thickness and vitality
  • Ability of the tree to tolerate stress
  • Probability of survival after induction

Age without sufficient DBH results in:

  • Weak defense response
  • Limited resin formation
  • High mortality risk

DBH is the primary indicator; age is the supporting indicator.

2. Standard DBH Classes (BarIno™ Reference)

DBH is measured at 1.3 meters (4.5 ft) above ground level.

DBH ClassDiameter (cm)Tree ConditionInduction Status
Class A<10 cmJuvenile❌ Not allowed
Class B10–14 cmImmature⚠ Restricted
Class C15–19 cmEarly mature✅ Limited induction
Class D20–24 cmMature✅ Standard induction
Class E≥25 cmFully mature✅ Premium induction

3. Minimum Age Requirements (Indicative)

Age varies by species, site quality, and management. DBH must always be verified.

DBH ClassApprox. AgeInduction Recommendation
<10 cm<4 yearsNo induction
10–14 cm4–6 yearsAgarStart™ only (optional)
15–19 cm6–8 yearsFusaPrime™ (light protocol)
20–24 cm8–10 yearsFull BarIno™ sequence
≥25 cm10+ yearsAll products, premium cycles

4. BarIno™ Product Entry by DBH Class

ProductMinimum DBHNotes
AgarStart™≥10 cmTree activation only
FusaPrime™≥15 cmBiological induction
FusaTrinity™≥18–20 cmDual induction
Harmonia™≥20 cmLong-term maturation
ResinRush™≥20 cmAmplification phase
FusaBlaze™≥22–25 cmDensification phase

5. Induction Risk by Undersized Trees

IssueCause
Tree deathInsufficient vascular capacity
Shallow resinLimited xylem volume
Uneven inductionPoor sap flow
Disease collapseOverwhelmed defense response

BarIno™ does not recommend induction below threshold DBH under any circumstances.

6. Field Verification Checklist

Before induction, confirm:

  • DBH measured correctly (tape or caliper)
  • No major pest infestation
  • Healthy canopy and active growth
  • No water stress or nutrient deficiency
  • Tree tagged and documented

7. Training Rule of Thumb (Farmer-Friendly)

If your arms can’t comfortably wrap the tree, don’t inoculate yet.
Wait for the tree to grow—the resin will be better.

8. Certification & Compliance Note

BarIno™ DBH thresholds:

  • Protect farmer investment
  • Improve yield predictability
  • Reduce mortality
  • Support environmental compliance
  • Strengthen buyer confidence

BarIno™ Readiness Principle

A mature tree produces agarwood. An immature tree produces loss.
